I Ride On a Mail Train
Annabel and I are going to Goa in India next week. It was a Portugese settlement way back when and still has a strong European Influence. For example, "they" say it is the only place on the sub-continent where it is OK to wear swimsuits on the beach.
Soooo...Annabel and I are taking the bus from Dhaka to Kolkata on Thusday night(14 hours), then getting on a train in Kolkata for the 36 hour trip to Mumbai (aka Bombay), then training for 12 more hours south to Goa. We will spend three glorious days in our swimsuits on the Beach before journeying back.
We could fly Dhaka-Kolkata-Delhi-Mumbai for $200 on very sketchy airlines, but it would only save us about 24 hours. And as we are poor teachers/interns we are taking the $30 train - 3rd class non-AC.
Good thing I like the train. And Annabel.

36+12=48 hrs. That's really close to my Dehli-Trivandrum 58 hrs train ride. Or my Metropaliam-Calcutta + 18 hrs stand-still delay ride. Of course, you guys start out with a very nice bus ride first. Kudos. Anyway, hope you guys have fun. Watch out for the hippies. Oh yes, they are still around. Smoking is bad. -Jake
Ah yes, that is not including stand-still delays, which are likely, considering the "country situation" especially as we buzz through Mumbai. We might run into the hippies, but Annabel's not the type to buy what they're selling
