Once again you've mistaken the minerals for cures
I had an epiphany last night. It has been 5 days since my last cup of coffee. A trip to the corner store for a Coke cured my tiredness and restored my Bangla to its normal, mostly functioning state with only small mistakes like calling the staff sex workers (prostitutes) instead of health workers.Unfortunately it was the 4th day of the workshops and the participants who normally walk and bike for hours every day to get to the villages where they work were sick of sitting in a classroom. Today even the activities that were supposed to fun - recalling stories, songs and sayings that ingrain gender roles in our subconscious - were tedious and took forever. However, eventually the morning ended and most of the participants understood why worldwide the rate of new HIV infections in women is twice that of men, even though men engage in more risky behavior.
The afternoon passed swiftly as we prepared for tomorrows session of practice teaching with real students.
When I got back to the guest house there was a crew of young men waiting for me. "We are here to practice English with you." "The director of PHCP said that if we come for the practice teaching tomorrow, you will practice with us tonight." These young university students meet together once a week to practice English. They share the knowledge they have among them, slowly building vocabulary. Some of them are quite good, and we enjoyed chatting till the sun went down and they returned to their homes - some close, others as far as 40 minutes walking.
